DIY Projects To Boost Your Home’s Curb Appeal
We all love to improve our living space, which brings added comfort and drives up the property value, and if you are looking for a few DIY project ideas for 2022, you’ve come to the right place. Summer is fast approaching and that is the perfect time for some exterior work and with that in mind, here are a few DIY project ideas to contemplate this summer.
Entrance Gates
If your gates have seen better days, why not design a set and install them yourself? If you contact a local welder, they would be happy to replicate your drawing and you will need some help to hang the gates. You can go for electric gates if your skillsets can handle such a project, which isn’t that difficult. The other alternative is to get a custom gate company to fabricate the gates to your specifications and carry out the installation yourself, which would save a chunk of money.
Block Paving Driveway
This is your chance to display your block-laying skills; choose two colours and create a striking pattern. If you need any help working out how to correctly install block paving, there are lots of YouTube ‘how to’ videos that clearly show you each stage of the project. The secret lies in the ground preparation and laying the blocks in dry sand and cement provides a solid foundation. Luckily, you can buy online from local brick suppliers in your city and they will be delivered to your home address, along with the sand and cement and edging stones. This might take 2-3 days, so choose a summer long weekend and that should cover it.
Build An Entrance Porch
If you haven’t got an enclosed porch area in front of the door, you can build one using the same bricks as the home and a couple of double-glazed windows. You could add an exterior door to completely close off the porch, which is great for those cold winter days. Design a roof that matches the house and if possible, use the same style of windows, which won’t detract from the character of your home. The summer months of June, July and August offer the best time to build a porch.
Replace The Fencing
This can literally transform the look of a property, especially with fencing materials or supplies from your local store. Everything you need can be delivered to your door. You are advised to use seasoned timber that has been treated with preservative, as this will withstand the harsh climate. The first thing to do is remove the old fencing and you might be lucky and still have solid posts, otherwise they must be replaced. Adding a couple of gates will be a challenge that you’re sure to relish and choose a style that is in keeping with the property.
As you can see, there are a few great DIY projects for the coming summer and you can order all required materials from a local builder’s merchant, who will be happy to deliver when you need it.
