Making the most of your hallway and landing space

Making the most of your hallway and landing space

When it comes to our homes, we want them to look as neat and tidy as possible. However, this can be tricky sometimes, especially if we have more things than storage space.

This seems to be an issue with the UK housing market, with the Prime Minister vowing to ban tiny homes being built. But, if you love your tiny home, there are ways to combat any storage issues.

Hanging

In the hallways, if you have an under stairs area, this no doubt becomes a bit of a dumping ground. But it doesn’t have to be.

Instead, once you’ve decluttered and only have items that you need, you can then introduce some new stands and hooks. These are the ideal place to hang those coats you use all the time, alongside any hats, and even scarves and gloves and umbrellas in the winter.

They’ll also help to add a new decorative point, as you transform the entire under stairs into an open plan storage area for coats and accessories. If you happen to have stairs leading to the attic, you can do the exact same thing, but with dressing gowns for example.

New furniture

These areas are also a great spot for adding new furniture, which can also double up as storage.

Introducing a bench, which can open up for storage, will help you turn otherwise dead space into an interesting nook, which could be used for reading, but also helps to keep the place tidy. Shoe racks that look like a chest of drawers would also look nice, helping to hide away the sight of messy laces on the hallway floor.

New Cupboard

If you’re seriously lacking storage space, these spaces will come in handy.

Rather than turning them into little nooks, you could actually transform these spaces into a whole new cupboard. Whether it’s more of a walk-in cupboard to hang coats or place items such as a vacuum cleaner, to ones with shelves, which you can then store multiple items in, the choices are almost endless.

This can also be done with little nooks in the house, such as ones next to a chimney breast. So, rather than placing a large plant there, just think about what else you could do.

Utilise the cupboard

Finally, are you making the most of the cupboard space you have?

Whether this is a newly built one, or one that exists already, try introducing specific boxes for specific items, so you can keep everything organised and tidy. Not only will this make the most of the storage space in your home, but it’ll also help to make everything in your home a little more organised. And who doesn’t want that?

Also, if you have open shelves, you can utilise these in the same way, helping to make the room look a lot cleaner than before, just make sure you buy boxes that match your décor.

With these helpful tips, you’ll be able to say goodbye to mess and hello to extra storage.
