Solid Wood ~ The Perfect Choice For Flooring In Your Home

Choosing the flooring of any room in the house is a big decision, and with so many different types of flooring available, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Do you go for linoleum, carpet, tiles or something else? One option can provide you with everything you’re looking for in flooring, and that’s solid wood.

Solid wood flooring has become an incredibly popular choice for flooring throughout the house, and it’s not difficult to see why. Having wooden flooring can really help turn a house into a home by adding depth and character to any room – if you choose the correct type of wooden floor, it’s easy to create that ‘wow factor’ every time you or anyone else walks in the room.

Choosing the right wood

It’s easy enough to say you want wooden flooring, but it’s a different matter altogether when it comes to actually choosing it; there’s more options than you may think. The first thing you need to do is decide on the overall interior of the room. Are you completely redecorating or just laying down a new floor? If completely redecorating, then you can either use the flooring as a starting point or make it fit with the rest of the design. However, if you’re just laying a new floor, then you need to ensure the style and finish complements the rest of your décor.

The different types of wood can make a huge difference to the feel of a room, so it’s important you choose carefully. Solid oak is generally a lighter wood and so can make a room seem bigger and brighter, whereas a wood such as walnut has a much darker and richer quality, perfect for adding character to a particular room. However, if you want to opt for something more unusual that will really set your floor apart, then there are a number of exotic woods to choose from. Jatoba, Kempas and Merbau, among others, are becoming more sought after due to their unusual and unique tones that actually develop further as the wood matures.

Use solid wood to create your perfect home

Some may think of wood as a constrictive material for flooring, but that’s simply not true. Using solid wood, you can create myriad effects and personalities for your rooms. Using a brighter wood can really look the part in a stylish apartment, whereas handscraped or unfinished wood looks stunning in a rustic cottage, and parquet flooring can really add to the traditional characteristics of an older house.

Solid wood flooring can be used in pretty much any room of the house and has a number of benefits – style, character, affordability, easy to maintain and clean, to name but a few. By choosing solid wood, it’s easy to create a room that is attractive, homely and, more important than anything, enjoyable to spend time in.
