Feng Shui Your Home Office for Higher Productivity

When it comes to choosing the layout of your home office, you should consider incorporating some feng shui into the mix. This ancient Chinese art and science is widely popular today because it’s meant to increase productivity and encourage the flow of positive energy throughout an environment.

By limiting negative energy and enhancing your office so that you can focus on the work you need to do without being distracted, you can seize opportunities when they arise and increase your profits.

It’s All About Placement

If you can, try to find a desk that will fit perfectly into the far corner of your home office. This will allow you to have a full view of the entire room while you’re sitting at your desk working, and it will also give you the opportunity to have a constant view of the door to the room. The idea is that energy will flow into the workspace through the door, but if your back is turned to the door, you won’t be able to see a great prospect when it comes into your life.

If you absolutely can’t place your desk in this manner and you have to face away from the door, consider placing a mirror on your desk that will still give you a good view of the door and any opportunities that may come through it.

Clutter Must Go

Feng shui prohibits clutter in any environment, but especially in a workplace, where it can inhibit your focus and get in the way of the flow of energy. Keep your environment organised and make sure the door to your home office is always clear and that the door can swing wide open.

This means adjusting your home furniture so that it’s out of the way of the door. You also need to make sure you keep your desktop organised and free of clutter. Purchasing office organisers is a great way to maintain a clean desk while knowing exactly where everything is.

Placing Objects Strategically on Your Desk

Feng shui uses a bagua, or map, to determine where certain items should be placed in order to improve specific areas of your life. You can apply a bagua to an entire room, but many people also apply it directly to the top of their desk. To attract money, for example, place a plant in the back left corner of the desk.

To improve your reputation, put your business cards or your nameplate in the centre of the back of your desk. Place a motivational quote in the very centre of your desk, which has to do with your career, and make sure this area, in particular, in cleared of clutter. Finally, put a reference book in the left corner of the front of your desk if you’re hoping to learn something new or you’re having difficulty grasping a new concept that will improve your business.
