How To Create A Peaceful Garden Space
Summer’s here! This is the time of year when many of us head outside and enjoy all that out outdoor space has to offer.
Whether you have a garden or a yarden, there’s a lot to love about sitting in the sunshine on a warm summer’s day. But if you want to give your outdoor area an overhaul, here are some ideas to help you revamp the space.
Why Being Outside Is Good For Us
As well as giving us a little distance from household chores, getting outside is good for our mental and physical health. According to Mind, the mental health charity, there are plenty of benefits that come with spending time in a green space. From improving your mood and boosting confidence to helping you take some time out, leaving you feeling relaxed, you can enjoy something that’s wonderful for your wellbeing.
As well as helping your mental wellbeing, being outdoors can promote your physical health too. If you’re exercising outdoors, you could improve heart and lung health, for instance. But even sitting outside for a little while can stimulate the production of serotonin, which can aid your natural cycles, such as sleep and digestion.
How To Update Your Outdoor Space
If you’re thinking of creating a sanctuary in your garden, take a look at these ideas to inspire you:
Make a plan
Before you begin, work out what you want to do with the space. The ideas you introduce will depend on factors such as how much room you have, whether you’re renting or own the place, and also who else lives with you.
For instance, if you live in a house share, you’ll need to speak to your landlord if you’re planning on making any drastic changes. Speak to your housemates too as they might have some ideas of their on and could help to split the costs.
If it’s your own property, you’ll need to work out what you want to do with the space you have and the budget you can afford.
Add plants
Whatever size the space and no matter if you’re renting or not, plants are a quick and easy addition that can transform any space. Keep them in pots or if you’re after something more permanent, research the plants you want to add and how to plant them.
Invest in furniture
Garden furniture is the perfect addition. There are plenty of ways to quickly update your outdoor space to mirror your idea of peacefulness. Everything from hammocks, parasol, stools and even outdoor cushions will contribute to creating the right atmosphere where you can sit back and relax.
Incorporate water features
If you have the space, a small pond can be a lovely addition to a garden. You might want to add a water fountain to your outdoor area too.
Light it up
Fairy lights and lanterns can transform the space. Those barbecue days easily run late into the evenings when the space is lit up by cosy glowing orbs.
