Spring Decor Tips and Ideas

Spring is rapidly on its way and it’s time for your living space to reflect that. That means switching from thick heavy winter fabrics on bedsheets and curtains to lighter covers that allow the light and warmth of the season in.

Whether it’s subtle seasonal changes, a spring clean, or a bigger re-design is on the cards, here are some décor tips for spring.

Lighten Up

As mentioned above, one of the first things to do when spring starts to hit is switch out any duvets, curtains, blankets, and other materials. Lighter fabrics will ensure you’ll be more comfortable when things really start to heat up in summer.

Choose airy, breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen.

That Means Colours Too

As well as things that feel lighter, it might be an idea to try things that look lighter too. Maybe your rooms need a fresh lick of paint? Or a new colour entirely?

If painting a wall sounds too permanent, then choose curtains, throws, bedsheets, and other accessories with light tones or floral patterns.

Spring is a great time to try out pastel colours and hues like lemon yellow, sky blue or an energising coral pink. Just make sure that these colours actually match your personality so your space still feels like your space.

Using these light colours will guarantee that the extra sunlight you enjoy will bounce around your room, making your space look bright and happy. Plus, it could even look bigger too…

…And if you do want your space to look more roomy, that means it’s probably time for – you guessed it – a spring clean…

Freshen Up With a Spring Clean

The light and warmth (and spring bank holidays) might put you in the mood to do more, so get a little active by planning out what you want to do to improve your living space. Have a look around and write down a list on a notepad or your phone if it helps.

You may choose to embrace your inner minimalist and simplify things a bit, embarking on a calming mission to declutter – so you can actually enjoy the “space” part of living space.

Grab those sofa legs and try moving things around. This could create more room but it could also make practical sense now that the weather is warming up. You might want to move your sofa away from the radiator and closer to the window (if you are able to do so).

One more tip, try rearranging any mirrors you have so that light bounces off them and makes your space feel even more open. On the flip side, you may have to move any mirrors anyway, as more sunlight might be coming through and shining in your face (or the ever important TV screen).

Get Creative

You could even be feeling more creative this season. Old, tired furniture? How about trying some DIY or having a go at upholstery. Consult with an upholstery specialist and get yourself some new fabric and padding for that old chair that you just can’t bring yourself to throw out.

Store It Away

Whilst streamlining your inventory can evoke a great sense of serenity and peace, if you can’t bring yourself to throw out certain items, look for alternative uses for them, or storage solutions such as shelves and ottomans.

Investing in an ottoman bed, or other furniture with a storage option is a great 2 in 1 solution. Your items will be out of sight, out of mind, and you will look and feel more organised.

This is especially useful for storing away the winter items you won’t currently need.

Add Nature Indoors and Outdoors

As part of your spring décor refresh, you could add nature inspired elements to rooms, whether that’s floral patterns or wooden furniture. Add potted plants or fresh flowers for additional bursts of colour and smell.

Speaking of smells, don’t forget to change any scents and sprays from cinnamon-y winter notes to fresh spring fragrances.

Now that the weather is nicer, you can actually get out and go and do things outdoors too. If you have a garden area, treat it as an extra room. Use spring to spend time making your garden great, invest in some outdoor furniture, tables, and maybe a parasol, shelter, or outdoor heater so you have all your bases covered and can have an amazing summer hosting barbecues or drinks.

Enjoy the Spring

Whether it’s a few simple changes that make it feel like a new season has begun, or you plan to go all out and enjoy spring and summer to the maximum, hopefully these tips have left you with some inspiration. Whatever you end up doing to refresh your décor for the spring, remember to have fun.
