Ground Source Heat Pumps Boosted By Latest Reports [Guest Post]
The British ground source heat pumps industry has received a welcome boost, with news that areas in the southwest of England have the potential to generate 20% of the UK’s energy needs.
Regions such as Cornwall have a big part to play in the UK’s renewable future, says MP Sarah Newton and reports from a leading energy consultants backs up this news.
Sinclair Knight Merz, in partnership with the Renewable Energy Association, has published a report titled ‘Geothermal Potential for Great Britain and Northern Ireland’ which shows that this renewable source could have a huge future.
Ground source heat pumps have improved in popularity in recent months, with a range of benefits that will attract many homeowners, businesses and organisations. By installing a heat pump you will:
- Be generating your own environmentally friendly energy and slashing your household bills by hundreds of pounds annually. On top of this you’ll be cutting carbon emissions with a renewable technology.
- Earn a fixed, tax-free income when the Renewable Heat Incentive rolls around for ground source heat pumps. It’s expected that rates will be 8.5p/kWh, giving you around £850 profit a year.
With heat pumps there are two systems to consider; the ground source type and the air source heat pump. For your home, it’s probably better to look at the air source heat pumps as they don’t need to be buried into a borehole and instead are attached to the external wall of your property.
MP Sarah Newton, said on the heat pumps report: “The SKM Report published today demonstrates the benefits that the further development of geothermal energy could bring to the UK and to Cornwall in particular.
“I will continue to support the development of the United Downs Geothermal Plant, and to press Ministers to provide the appropriate support for the UK’s developing geothermal industry.
“A forthcoming change to the Renewable Obligation provides an excellent opportunity to ensure that government support for.”
Heat pumps are the perfect answer for those looking to get away from the rising costs of gas and electricity. Ground source heat pumps and air source systems allow you to make quick returns and slash your bills.
An air source system in particular, will allow you to see a profit of around £30,000 in a 20-year period. And they don’t lack efficiency, heating a water tank in just 60 minutes and providing showers for only 10p a time.
