5 Ways To Give Your Tired Kitchen A Facelift

They say the kitchen is the heart of your home, it is often the room where people congregate or spend time as a family at meal times. Kitchens are also one of the most expensive rooms to remodel and fit out, however as it is the heart of your home your will want to make it stand out and set the standard for the rest of the rooms in your house.

Fully fitted kitchens are beautiful, with modern worktops, fixtures, appliances and cabinets, everybody would love the “designer” look kitchen. Not everybody can stretch their budget to include all the latest “mod cons”, this is especially true for first time buyers.

Paint The Walls

This is probable the quickest, easiest and cheapest thing you can do to transform the look of the kitchen. By painting the walls you will achieve a fresher and cleaner feel to the room. If you choose a lighter paint it will also give the impression of a larger room.

Another tip for choosing paint is to stick to neutral colours, that way you can add accessories, artwork, blinds etc… to add that personal taste. This is important if you decide to move home, a neutral colour scheme also helps to sell your home.

Replacement Cabinet Doors

There are many styles of cabinet doors, fashions come and go and sometimes this can leave your kitchen looking old and out dated. Depending on the look you are trying to achieve will dictate the cabinet doors you choose. The more traditional kitchen would suit solid wood doors, oaks and pine doors are a great choice if you are looking to create a more “country cottage” traditional kitchen space.

Modern kitchen design on the other hand makes use of high gloss, handless doors which come in many different colours

Replacement Worktops

Kitchen worktops are similar to cabinet doors in that they are easily swapped or changed for new ones. Worktops may become worn or in some cases the laminate may have “blown” or bubble up especially round areas where moisture can get into the worktop, typically around the sink & taps.

There are plenty of options for worktops from laminated worktops, solid wood and a range of earth stones, granite and marbles. Modern kitchen worktops come in a wide range of colours to fit your new kitchen colour scheme.

This is possible the most expensive area of your kitchen to upgrade. Appliances such as fridges, freezers and ovens can cost a lot depending on what you buy. Quite often the oven can be a centre piece for your kitchen, or perhaps an American style fridge freezer. Upgrading these will give your kitchen a much more modern appearance.

Replace The Flooring

Finally, the kitchen flooring. Lino is a common floor covering in kitchens in need of a facelift. It was extremely popular as a quick and easy solution to covering the kitchen floor. However over the years

Lino has gone out of fashion to be replaced with other flooring systems.
